A new book published with the co-operation of numerous winemakers, bottle manufacturers, cap suppliers, bottling companies and consultants with the aim of promoting best practice in the field. This book is about the quality of the wine in the bottle. After the introduction, the book beings with the history of the screw cap and follows on with reasons for choosing screw caps; then comes a section on "the cap and the bottle" covering bottle manufacture, critical dimensions, tolerances, thread, bead angle, neck diameter, concentricity, glass attributes and variables, with further sections on winemaking and chemistry; bottling, filling & capping; bottling line faults & checks; capping equipment; torques. Section 5 covers post-bottling & the appendices include: sampling plan; the role of oxygen in the ageing of bottled wine; brand-specific data & specification sheets.
