The Chemical Technological Properties Of Medieval Glass Articles

The paper deals with the collections of glass articles recovered from sites of the Saltovo-Mayatskoye archaeological culture created by the semi-nomads having inhabited the steppe and forest-steppe of the Azov Sea and the Don area in the 8th - early 10th century AD. Since at that time of the flourishing of this culture the Khazars held sway over the steppes, it is generally believed that its bearers were included into the Khazar chagnate. The collections of glass artefacts from the following Don sites have been investigated: the Mayatskoye site and the Mayatskoye, Dmitriyevka and Yutanovka cemetries. It is a common knowledge that every article bears traces of the technological operations it has been subject to.
