The sulphates of Mg, Ca and Ba, whose decomposition temperatures vary considerably are considered. An examination is made of their behaviour during the heating up of glasses and batch mixtures in order to evaluate whether there are any differences between the quantity of SO3 which passes into the glass and that released in the form of bubbles. The examination has been made as a function of temperature and time using analytical and thermogravimetric methods.
