Apatite Formation On Ca0-M203-Si02 Glasses (M=La, Y) In A Simulated Body Fluid

Glasses were prepared whose composition is obtained by substituting La203 or Y203 to Ca0 in amorphous calcium silicates. The experimental results suggest that the substitution is useful in increasing the rigidity of the glass structure. Their behaviour, when they are soaked in a simulated body fluid, was studied by means of electron microscopy, equipped with energy dispersive system for the elemental analysis and by means of IR spectroscopy.
