Analysis Of Oxide Content In Gallium Lanthanum Sulphide (Gls) Glasses By Infrared Absorption Spectroscopy

A spectroscopic technique for measuring the oxide contents of GLS glasses is presented. The technique involves measuring the height of the 8.6um mid-infrared band which is believed to be related to the total oxide content of the glass. The oxide contents measured using this technique are significantly different to those previously reported, particularly for low oxide content glasses. It is therefore proposed that the determination of oxide content in GLS glasses is carried out spectroscopically.
