Our Glass Guardians campaign has relaunched giving parents direct access to resources to help with homeschooling.

Glass Guardians educational programme returns for a third year and gives parents direct access for the first time.

A new version of the nationwide curriculum-linked activity programme that last year saw over 150,000 primary school children and 1,000 schools take part, has been launched by British Glass and the National Schools Partnership in order to help parents who are home schooling their children.

Glass Guardians, which educates children about the 100% recyclability and sustainable benefits of glass packaging, will have a superhero theme this year. It will again include a competition element to encourage 5-11-year-old pupils to get creative as they learn about the importance of glass recycling.

To enter the competition, pupils are being invited to create their very own Glass Guardian recycling superhero. There’s a main prize of £500 worth of Amazon vouchers for the winning school, plus £50 of vouchers of their choice for the winning pupil. In addition, all pupils who enter the competition will also have the chance to win a monthly prize of Waterstones vouchers throughout the Spring and Summer terms before the competition’s deadline on Friday 9 October.

The Glass Guardians programme uses fun and absorbing activities to help children learn everything there is to know about glass, such as how it is made and why it is such a useful and resourceful material.

Usually delivered by teachers in the classroom, this year the programme has been adapted so it can be supplied by teachers for parents to deliver the resources at home and parents can also access the activity sheets independently on the National Schools Partnership website.

Victoria Adams, Senior Communications Officer at British Glass, comments:

“The activity lends itself perfectly to home schooling and we know from previous years just how much the children enjoy the competition and learning all about glass.

“Glass Guardians has proved to be a very good way for children to apply Maths, Science and English skills to this very absorbing topic. We’re particularly looking forward to seeing the results of their creativity in the competition – and to seeing a whole new young army of superhero Glass Guardians emerge”.
