A wide-ranging, all-staff initiative at its Doncaster plant saw the Ardagh Group win the Glass Focus Award 2017 for Health and Safety Action – sponsored by Flexion Global.
The Glass Focus Awards, organised by British Glass and supported by Glass Worldwide, celebrated achievement across the glass industry at a black-tie ceremony held in Leeds on 15 June.

In the Health and Safety Action category the judging panel was looking for a company that has demonstrated aspirational management of health and safety. Entrants were asked to explain the risks or issues that had been addressed, the difference their initiative had made and how staff had been involved.
The Ardagh Group safety strategy implemented at its Doncaster plant has made the safety of every employee a priority. The multiple strand strategy – involving all staff – included initiatives such as each department collectively identifying its own key risks and having daily departmental H&S team briefings. The overall strategy has resulted in an open employee dialogue and a marked reduction in accidents.
The judges were particularly impressed by the leadership shown in this initiative, and its proactive approach to widening employee participation via a wide variety of methods.
The Health and Safety Action category was sponsored by Flexion Global – which manufactures and distributes high performance, cut resistant clothing, gloves and footwear for industrial applications – including safety wear for the glass industry.
