Diageo included in the 2019 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index

Consumer product company and British Glass member Diageo has been named in the 2019 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index.

The business, which works in the alcoholic beverage sector, is one of 230 companies named on the list compiled by the US media company, which showcases businesses who are committed to transparency in gender reporting and advancing women’s equality.

Diageo were commended on the representation of women in their business, their policies that promote gender equality amongst employees and initiatives to ensure women are empowered throughout their supply chain and beyond.

The London based firm also received praise for the diversity of leadership within their executive committee and board, with women making up 40% and 44% of the leadership teams respectively.

Commenting on the achievement, Chief Human Resources Officer Mairead Nayagar said:

“I am delighted that Diageo has been included in this year’s Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index. This is welcome recognition and we have a clear ambition to achieve more.

“We firmly believe that inclusive and diverse businesses perform better.

“To date we’ve made strong strides to promote gender balance within our business where currently 40% of our Executive Committee are women, and we have targets for our global senior leadership team to be 40% female by 2025.

“We also strive to empower women throughout our value chain and in 2018 alone; our community programmes reached over 164,000 women.”
