Wrap Supports Mars In Lightweight Glass Jar Trials

A glass container lightweighting project supported by WRAP has had its first success in the food sector, thanks to a successful partnership with major food brand owner Mars. The company was invited to take part in trials lightweighting glass containers by Glassrite Food, FAB & Soft Drinks, and the first success has been a reduction of 6% in the weight of Mars' Uncle Ben's Ambient Sauce jars. This progression means Mars will save 450/tpa in glass; the equivalent of 1,215 tonnes CO2 emissions and taking 192 cars off the road. Having identified the potential environmental benefits to be gained from lightweighting, Mars worked with Ardagh Glass in the Netherlands to reduce the weight of its 258g Ambient Sauce jar.
