A major new project funded by WRAP has been established with the aim of developing a cost-effective process to produce food-contact high density polyethylene (HDPE) from post-consumer recycled plastic. The scheme, which has been awarded £235,000 under WRAP's Plastic Programme, will look specifically at recovered HDPE milk containers and could potentially expand the recycling opportunities for plastic milk bottles. All facets of the plastics lifetime cycle will be examined, from collection and sorting to recycling and reuse.
