Four applications with the potential to use significant amounts of the UK's waste CRT glass have been identified in a report published by WRAP recently. Materials Recovery from Waste Cathode Ray Tubes, is the second report to be issued detailing results from a project aimed at increasing recycling of CRT glass. The research, carried out by ICER (Ind Council for Electronic Equipment Recycling) with support from Glass Technology Services, aims to identify potential markets for waste CRT glass and to assess the economic and technical barriers to recycling, particularly the higher value end market applications. The project will also develop the necessary standards and processes for viable, commercial scale recycling of CRTs. Five potential applications were investigated; bricks and tiles; new CRTs; a fluxing agent in brick/ceramics; & a fluxing agent in smelting operations.
