Wrap: Bulk Wine Imports Boost Uk Bottle Output

The GlassRite Wine project funded by the UK's WRAP has shown that bulk importing of wine into the UK & the use of lighter weight bottles can lead to major environmental & business benefits for the wine sector. As a result of the scheme, CO2 emissions have been cut by over 28,000/t, equivalent to taking over 8,500 cars off the road. WRAP presented its findings from the first phase of GlassRite Wine at the London International Wine Fair from 20-22 May 2008. In addition, details were announced of a second phase of work, which will build on achievements to date. The first phase of GlassRite Wine ran from 2006-2008, managed by British Glass, & involved an impressive list of UK retailers, major international wine brands, producers & agents, fillers & glass manufacturers.
