[Worksop] End Of An Era

Worksop is set to say goodbye to another established industry - and 70 jobs - as Ardagh Glass, on Sandy Lane, prepares to close its doors on 7th October. Company bosses say the glass factory's furnace is coming to the end of its shelf life and to replace it would cost £14M, which would be commercially unviable as part of its modernisation plans. Workers have been offered similar jobs at Ardagh's Barnsley and Knottingley sites or given early retirement or redundancy packages, but say this has done nothing to ease the sadness of saying goodbye to the "Worksop family."
