Worldwide demand for windows & doors (fenestration) will expand by 4.7%/pa & is expected to reach $125BN by 2009, according to Freedonia in its latest industry report. Windows & doors are major users of glass both for new-build & replacement installation. The advances in demand will be driven by an acceleration in economic growth, ongoing development efforts & rising personal incomes in most areas. Growth in the industrialising nations of Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe & Latin America will outperform demand in the US, Western Europe and Japan though intensity of product use will remain comparatively low in most developing countries. China, India and Russia, plus the smaller markets of Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia, are expected to register some of the biggest gains in their doors & window markets.
