The Whispering Train

A five year project in the Netherlands looks into reducing rail freight noise levels. The "Dolomite Shuttle" freight train which has been especially modified with new wheels, wheel dampers and brakes, runs on a fixed route between the Dutch town of Veendam and Hermalle in Belgium. For a period of two and a half years, until June 2007, the noise produced by the "whispering train" is being carefully monitored.
