Wetting On Soft, Polymeric Solics: Similarities With Adhesion

Young's equation has been used since its inception nearly two centuries ago to describe the equilibrium at a wetting triple line, solid/liquid/surrounding fluid. Although it has stood the test time, one objection is that in simplest derivation, the force balance perpendicular to the solid surface is neglected. This paper considers the magnitude and form of the local deformation, or "wetting ridge", caused by liquid surface tension.
