Waterford Crystal Provides New Jobs

Negotiations are coming to a close between Waterford Crystal and the group that owns the brand with regards to plans to re-open the Waterford Crystal visitor centre, shop and glass-blowing facility. Waterford City Council will reportedly invest about EUR 20 million to create about 100 jobs at the site on the Mall, as well as in a scheme to improve the accessibility of the heritage assets in the city's Viking Triangle surrounding Reginald's Tower. There are only about 30 people still employed at the traditional Waterford Crystal facility at Kilbarry on the outskirts of the city at present compared to about 3,000 employees in the 1980s.
