Water-Repellent Glass

Daimler-Benz is conducting tests on a water-repellant coating which it claims can keep the glass on coach windows clean. The hydrophobic coating is made up of a silicon-based compound which is chemically bonded to the glass surface. For coating, panes of glass can be stood in a solution of the compound for 10 minutes then are rinsed, dried and polished. It is almost impossible for treated windows to become wet as the coatch is moving, as water droplets are dispersed by air streaming past the windows. Therefore dirt which has disolved in the water droplets cannot dry and make the glass dirty. (whole item)
