The Environment Agency published, on 26 July 2006, its Annual Spotlight Report, which highlights the environmental performance of businesses in England and Wales. The Environment Agency's acting Chief Executive, Paul Leinster, has called for food and drink manufacturers and retailers in particular, to look at the amount of packaging and waste they create as he feels that they are key to how much rubbish consumers produce every day. The report also remarks that companies with high environmental standards can even financially outperform other companies by up to 43%.
