The right speed at each point of the transfer of glass containers from the IS machine to the lehr is the key to continuous, trouble-free production. On a traditional production line, the newly blown glass container is put onto a machine conveyor that moves in front of the IS machine. The speed varies with the production speed and the distance between the articles. The containers then travel through a ware transfer that guides them to the cross conveyor in front of the lehr. A stacker pushes them onto the lehr belt which moves at relatively low speed. At the ware transfer and the stacker, the container not only changes speed but also direction. These are the two critical areas. In this article the author explains how to keep glass containers moving from the IS machine to the lehr.
