Vitrification is cost-effective and can produce an extremely durable glass form, which can isolate contaminants from the environment for thousands of years. Waste glass has been shown to be so stable that some vitrified wastes, such as municipal incinerator ash, can be made into consumer products such as ceramic tiles, building materials, or insulation.
