The WEEE (Waste Electrical/Electronic Equipment) Directive & the RoSH (Restriction of Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical & Electronic Equipment) Directive will soon come into force. The WEEE Directive aims to minimise the impact of electrical/electronic equipment on the environment during their lifetime & as waste. It applies to a huge spectrum of products & sets criteria for collection, treatment, recycling & recovery of waste electrical/electronic equipment. It makes producers responsible for financing most of these activities. The RoHS Directive will ban the placing on the EU market of new electrical & electronic equipment containing more than agreed levels of lead, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, PBB & PBDE flame retardants from 1/07/06.
