Vietnamese Glass Container Plant Unveiled

Joint venture partners O-I, Berli Jucker Public Co, and Saigon Beer Alcohol Beverage Co have opened Vietnam's most advanced glass container manufacturing plant. Located around 60km south east of Ho Chi Minh City in Ba Ria Vung Tau Province, the US$ 47M factory will initially produce around 75,000/tpa of mainly returnable premium glass containers for Vietnam's beer, soft drinks, food, wine, spirits and pharmaceutical markets. However, the plant has the capacity to adapt to market trends, extending to four lines with a production capacity of 84,000/tpa. Underlying the plant's capability and flexibility, the facility features one furnace, three production lines and two ACL printing lines. Employing nearly 450 people, the plant uses natural gas for improved sustainability. Completed in November 2011, the factory replaces an existing facility in District 4 of Ho Chi Minh City that was recently vacated by O-I BJC to facilitate the city's urban development plans.
