[Vietnam] Vieglass Pushes For Government Tax Support

The Vietnam Glass Association, Vieglass, has asked PM Nguyen Tan Dung to increase the import tax on construction glass from the current 5% to 20%. The increase is among other proposals Vieglass has sent to the government to help the glass industry through current difficulties as overstock is reaching 30% of the industry's annual capacity. In a dispatch sent to the PM, Vieglass also asked for a reduction in the price of fuel oil to the same level as regional countries. Fuel oil, which accounts for 40-50% of glass production costs, has recently peaked in Vietnam at nearly twice the regional price. The association also asked the government to set up technical standards on imported construction lass to prevent trade fraud and protect the interests of consumers. These standards would also help ensure safety during construction work.
