[Vietnam] New Furnace Fired Up

Vietnam Glass Industries Limited (VGI) fired up a glass furnace in southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau province on 13 May 2008 in preparation for the operation of a USD 96.2 million plant, the Saigon Times Daily reported. VGI General Director, Yoshikazu Morita, said the plant, which has a daily production capacity of 500 tons of glass products, will start output after the furnace has been working for around 15 days. VGI is an affiliate of Japan's Nippon Sheet Glass Group (NSG). The factory in Vung Tau is the group's 51st in the world and the second in Vietnam after the first Vietnam Float Glass Company set up in northern Bac Ninh province in 1999, according to the general director. He also noted that the second glass factory will help NSG hold 60% of the Vietnamese glass market, which now has an annual total output of around 100M square meters of products.
