Use Of Recycled Cullet Can Have A Negative Effect On The Environment

The undesirable addition of pollutant species to fibreglass batch from commercial cullet results mainly from the economics of the material. Because of their composition, commercial cullet (float and container) do not have the value to a fibreglass user that they do to their mother industires or other users. The best supplies are purchased by these industries at prices with which fibreglass cannot compete. Therefore, fibreglass is very often left with cullet supplies of the lowest quality. These supplies are usually mixtures of a wide variety of glass products and are less effectively beneficiated. This paper explains why this economic disadvantage exits.
