After very good sales in 1999 for the new-millenium celebrations, glass and crystal ware headed for a downturn in 2000 in the United States. Consumers' tastes started to change, while sales began moving from department stores to speciality stores. Crystal giftware kept up its drive in sales and accounted for the lion's share of the tabletop business.
