[Usa] Sale Of Oi Plastics Unit To Rexam Approved

The Federal Trade Commission has cleared Rexam Plc's US$ 1.8BN cash acquisition of Owen-Illinois Inc.'s plastic packaging unit. The US government completed its review and approved the deal without conditions. The Owens-Illinois unit, known as O-I Plastic Products FTS Inc., makes plastic prescription bottles, tamperproof closures and plastic medical devices. The division reported sales of US$ 760M in 2006 and a profit of US$ 114M.
