[Usa] Proposed Revision To Auto Glass Standard

The National Glass Association Secretariat for the Repair of Laminated Automotive Glass Standard (ANSI/NGA R1.1-2007) has notified the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) of its intention to revise the Repair of Laminated Automotive Glass Standard (ROLAGS). The scope of the standard is to define the process of windshield repair, establish the size of repairable damages & set the performance criteria for repaired laminated glass. ROLAGS also provides best practices for the training of a repair technician. The NGA is a certified ANSI standards writing body that operates under guidelines, NGA Procedures for Standards Developing Committees (SDC) to Develop & Maintain Standards, approved by ANSI. Prior to its most recent meeting on 9 October 2008, ROLAGS addressed crack length up to 14 inches. The ROLAG Standard Development Committee (SDC) has voted to change Section 6 (Damage Types and Repairable Dimensions) and limit crack length to six inches. The ROLAG SDC also voted to reword Annex B and move it into the body of the standard under Section 6. The proposed changes are consultable in a draft of the standard that includes the proposed changes posted on the ROLAGS website. The SDC will take public comment on the proposed changes and the entire standard until mid-February 2009.
