WDIV-TV, Detroit, MI, broadcast a story on February 14 that referred to the presence of lead in ceramic tableware and noted based on XRF tests for the presence of lead that the ware posed a danger to consumers. The report which was heavily flawed even when measured against the loose journalistic standards usually applied in similar cases, was aired even though the tableware retailer, Pier 1 Imports, provided ample test data that demonstrated that the ware in question met all safety standards. The reporter also failed to contact FDA to determine the facts related to tableware safety before broadcasting the flawed story. SGCD responded to the report by sending the following letter which is posted at the SGCD website: www.sgcd.org/pdf/WDIV_Letter_Feb_2008.pdf
