Anchor Hocking Co will eliminate around half of the 500 jobs at its plant in Monaca, Beaver County, becoming the fourth glassmaking firm in Pennsylvania to close or significantly scale back employment in recent months. Anchor Hocking is not affiliated with Anchor Glass Container Corp., the Tampa-based company that shut down its bottle making plant in Fayette County Nov/04, putting 300 out of work. Anchor say it is cutting the jobs because of increased efficiency of its operations, lack of growth in the glass business and foreign competition. It said it is not moving any of its work to another country. Anchor Hocking is a subsidiary of Ohio-based Global Home Products LLC and operates the plant in Monaca and one in Lancaster, Ohio, where the company is based.
