Us Soda Ash Industry Tops Us$ 1Bn In 2007

The value of soda ash produced in the United States exceeded US$ 1BN/pa for the first time in 2007. More than 95% of the nation's soda ash comes from Wyoming. An industry report says the value of US soda ash production increased from US$ 928M in 2006 to US$ 1.3BN in 2007. However, the report prepared by Dennis Kostick of the US Geological Survey, says the industry still faces tough competition from synthetic soda ash producers in Asia, Europe and Africa. Mr. Kostick predicted that worldwide demand for soda ash would continue to grow in the range of 1.5% to 2% a year.
