The Unusual Optical Properties Of Two Venetian Glasses

The documentary history of two famous types of Venetian coloured glasses - chalcedony and girasole - was studied in detail. Samples of both glasses recovered from the Venetian lagoon enabled a range of physical and chemical analyses to be carried out, which helped to explain how their remarkable optical properties were achieved.
