Uncovering Treasures In The Empire State

Most people associate the US city of Corning with glass, however, very few people know about the real treasure that lies inside this quaint town of only 6,536 residents: The Corning Museum of Glass. Dedicated entirely to glass, it is the most vast and comprehensive glass museum in the world. Included in its collections are everything from stunning beaded jewellery and accessories to contemporary and anqique goblets, bowls and vases. This article looks at some of Corning's collections and also gives a fascinating insight into the history of glassmaking in the US, for example, according to the Museum, glassmaking was America's very first industry, and it was the Americans who invented the mass production of glass after having developed the pressing machine.
