Ultra Lightweight Bottle Production And The Resin Coated Ultra Lightweight Bottle

The lightweighting of glass containers has been one of the glass industry's most important developments over past years and is still continuing as we refine our knowledge of the many technical aspects related to the glass forming process. In this article, Toyo Glass will describe its approach to eliminate the presence of internal surface inclusions which can cause a drastic reduction in impact resistance and lead to breakage on the customer filling line. While ultra lightweight containers are normally associated with non-returnable, or one-way bottles, this paper also describes a new Toyo Glass development by means of which a resin coated ultra lightweight container gives excellent performance as a returnable packaging.
