Ultra High Temperature Ceramic Coatings For Oxidation Protection Of Carbon-Carbon Composites (Abstract Only - Article Available To Members Online Via: www.Ceramic.org)

Carbon-carbon composites are attractive materials for hypersonic flight vehicles, but they oxidize in air at high temperatures. Corral and Loehman investigated the use of multilayers of high-temperature ceramics, such as ZrB2 and SiC as continuous and adherent thermal protection coatings.
