Uk Glassware Market

The UK glassware market has grown by 7.4% between 1992 and 1996, reaching a value of £318m. The market is expected to grow around 1% by the year 2001, to reach £323m. Concentrating on soda-lime glass, crystal glass & heat resistant glass, the market report (60pp) from Key Note reveals that spending in real terms has fallen, due mainly to the growth of casual dining, a move away towards cheaper soda-lime products and a growth of simpler designs in plain crystal. Glassmaking is done on a relatively small scale in the UK, the cost advantages of sourcing products from aborad mean there is a growing separation between design & manufacture.
