A family-owned W Mids glass supplier that is challenging emerging markets in the East has won the Jan/09 Birmingham Post Enterprise Award. Oldbury based NJ Bradford, which has been family run since 1937, took the award for its efforts in winning back business from overseas competitors following the fall in value of sterling. The company, which traditionally served the decorative glass & toughened glass markets, now supplies the furniture industry, caravans & mobile homes, lighting projects (incl. toughened glass for lighting at the new St Pancras Station) & the firm is looking at the off-road auto sector & the significant requirement for glass shelving in retail/showroom fit-outs. MD Tim Bradford admitted that the downturn made trading conditions exceptionally difficult in recent months but was confident that the company would be able to retain all its workforce.
