Tweels and atmosphere containment are critical to the glass float operation as they provide high quality glass flow control, atmospheric control, and chemical and thermal stability between the hot zone and the tin bath. Most extreme service conditions can be observed when an extended refractory life means more difficult glass chemistries and thin glass requirement. Interdependence between the flow control design and glass operation requires a good understanding of the glass chemistry and cooperation between glass and refractory partners. High quality glass should further increase the need for high quality ceramics and enhance the development of higher quality standards.
