Colour television glass manufacture has grown in North American from sales of 6.5m TV sets in 1975 to 23.2m sets in 1995. As the average size of a television set has enlarged, TV glass manufactuers have had tu build larger glass furnaces. While the 35-inch funnel gob uses about 40 pounds of glass, the 35 inch panel uses a 70-pound gob. These industry changes have significantly increased raw material use over the past 20 years.
