Turkish Glass Growth

One of Turkey's most developed sectors, the glass industry, is set to continue growth in 2007. This will see an increase in demand for soda ash, limestone and silica sand, the key components of glass. The demand for glass is strongest in developing countries such as Turkey, with reported growth between 5-10%. The global annual demand has slowed but is experiencing steady growth at 3-4%. Flat glass is the primary product in the Turkish glass industry, glass containers second, followed by household glass. Freedonia Group reported that global flat glass demand is set to rise by 5.2%/pa up to 2010. Turkish exports of glass increased to US$630m in 2005. The highest demand was for household glass which accounted for $304m, almost half the total demand. Turkey's biggest glass manufacturer Sisecam Group, produced 2.2m/t in 2005, 90% of Turkish production.
