[Turkey] Added Value Emphasis For Expanding Flat Glass Business

In 1962, Alpaslan Akinci was a production engineer at the newly completed Cayirova sheet glass plant near Istanbul. When Mr Akinci and his colleagues were told to fulfil their first export order to the USA, they doubted their capability to meet the customer's needs. Thirty four years later, Mr Akinci heads an organisation with three float lines, figure and sheet capacity, plus various added value processing operations. With exports now accounting for 30% of production, the fears associated with fulfilling that first foreign order are a distant memory.
