Many factors influence the quality of a porcelain enamel finish. For the initial process of cleaning the metal surface, it is essential to maintain a water-break-free surface that eliminates contaimination and surface tension. To achieve this clean surface, industry personnel must better understand the causes and effects of their cleaning systems. As an aid to filling this need, a matrix has been developed providing guidelines not only for recognising cleaning problems but also for identifying their cause. Further it points to plans of action aimed to correct or prevent the problems.
