"VladVneshServis" spoke at the 12th Int Ex of Glass Products 2010 & gave a snapshot of the Russian glass market. The container sector fared worse than flat. Despite the emergence of new glass works & commissioning of new power, production fell by 15.5%. Most significantly affected were producers of narrow-neck containers, which declined by 16%. Recent indications are that this decline slowed considerably at the end of 2009. Over the first quarter 2010, bottle output fell by 4% compared to the same period 2009. Regionally, the Central Federal District leads on production. In the Volga Federal District production has fallen, but less than in Russia as a whole. Import volumes of glass bottles fell by almost 40% in 2009, however, the volume of exports slightly increased. Except for champagne & wines, the manufacture of basic alcoholic beverage containers decreases.
