Transfer And Lehr Mat Lubrication

Hot glass has a natural tendency to stick to metal, resulting in ripples, checks and other defects as the glass sticks and breaks loose during the forming process. Lubrication can counter this tendency and it is thus helpful to apply lubricants at all points where glass contacts metal. On an IS machine, there are many contact points, the first at the shears and the last at the lehr mat. In between, the glass contacts the dry delivery system, blank and finish moulds, rings and the transfer area between the forming area and lehr mat.
