Thermal toughening is one of the most widely used processes in glass manufacturing as it increases mechanical, thermal shock and impact resistance on glass objects. It is often used in the production of cups, dishes, glasses, headlights, door panels for washing machines, and all types of articles that encounter demanding use or abrupt temperature changes. Vidromecanica has developed an important production process, described in this article, for the toughening of opal, soda lime and borosilicate glass.
