Toughened Glass - Its Strengths And Weaknesses

Toughened glass is known for its strength, impact resistance, and general safety in use, However, the surface of toughened glass is "softer" and more "porous" than ordinary annealed glass because of changes in its crystalline structure caused by the toughening process. This paper briefly looks at some of the changes which make toughened glass more susceptible to physical and chemical attack and also looks at the technology which now exists to protect the glass against such attacks.
