NSG UK operations won 4 awards and 2 commendations plus the overall Glass Globe Trophy at the Glass Charter Health & Safety Conference in Stoke on Trent, on 7 April. Two further awards went to Group suppliers Dale Techniche and JK Ross, based on their work for the company. "This is a record haul for us and a fitting reward for a lot of very hard work." said H&S manager, Dave Donkin. "We have seen a step change in safety performance over the last year and this recognition is the very welcome result." The awards were: Winner of the Glass Globe Award for contribution to safety in the glass industry (Pilkington Building Products UK); Winner: Best Safety Performance by a business with fewer than 250 people (Pilkington Plyglass); Winner: Best Safety Improvement - the NSG guarding and isolation programme implemented under the Group Machinery Safety Policy; Winner: Best Health Initiative - Lathom Occupational Health Initiatives, lead by Paul Smart, chairman of Lathom EHS committee; Winner: Employer Contribution to Safety - Matt Cotten, Assistant Warehouse Manager at Basingstoke, who implemented and drove a range of behavioural safety initiatives and programmes at the plant; Commended: Best Training Initiative - Angela Phelan & Dawn Uddin at Kings Norton; Commended: Safety Representative of the Year - Peter Smith, NGF Europe.
