Tint-Free In Malaysia

Traffic police in Kota Kinabalu, eastern Malaysia, have launched a major crackdown on vehicles fitted with tinted glass that exceeds the permissible level. The operation began on June 1 and on one day more than 30 motorists in the city were booked for committing the offence. According to Acting District Traffic Chief, "We will not book imported vehicles that come with tinted glass for the time being until a decision on the matter is made, but we will go after other vehicles fitted with excessively tinted glass," he said. He advised motorists whose vehicles have tinted glass to send them to the Road Transport Department for a test to ensure they are in accordance with the law. "If the JPJ finds the tinted glass to be over the limit, the motorist will have to take it down or face action," he said. A high number of fatalities on Malaysian roads led to the action.
