Tighter Pollution Limits For Large Combustion Plants

Large combustion plants may have to meet tougher pollution limits than set by EU legislation, according to draft conclusions on best available techniques (BAT) that will eventually become binding. The draft conclusions are contained in a new guidance note, known as a BREF, published by the European Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) Bureau on 4 July. The note is out for consultation until September and sets out BAT for controlling pollution and maximising energy efficiency at new and existing plants. BAT associated emission levels (AELs) put forward in the draft BREF are significantly tighter than the existing version, which dates from 2006. The draft BREF can be downoaded from here: eippcb.jrc.ec.europa.eu/reference/BREF/LCP_D1_June2013_online.pdf
